Amy Swift is the CEO and Founder of Building Hugger--a boutique design firm specializing in historic preservation in Detroit -- and Hug Army Development, a vacant property management company dedicated to safe guarding and mothballing vacant properties in Detroit. She was named a 2016 Tory Burch Fellow and accepted into the national cohort of the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business Program. Swift’s business endeavors within the city have helped to not only raise awareness and improve the community, but also to contribute and support a network of woman owned and operated construction companies.
“I want to disrupt the replacement window industry by modernizing the window restoration trade and growing it into a regional business force. Together with our specialty hardware store, Hugs Hardware, and vacant property management service, Hug Army Development, we seek to address the pain points of preservation efforts.”
Swift earned her MS in Historic Preservation from Columbia University and a BS in Interior Architecture from Lawrence Technogical University. Her Masters thesis earned her a Student Scholar award with the Association for Preservation Technology and her case study was published in DOCOMOMOMO International’s Journal. She founded Hus Hardware and Hug Army Development and serves as an Advisory Board Member for Preservation Detroit.
